2023 Permit Approved – USCG Milford Haven supports Islander Regatta

Permit for Marine Event: SEC VA 23-001

On Jan 31st, the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard Waterways Management Division approved the permit application submitted by Mathews Outdoor Club for the Islander Regatta 2023 water support. The 9-mile paddle around Gwynn’s Island in Mathews County Virginia is scheduled for Saturday, June 24, 2023.

No restrictions will be placed on the use of navigable waters by other parties.
A Local Notice to Mariners will be issued to inform maritime interests and solicit their cooperation.
There will be a Regatta Patrol assigned by the Coast Guard Patrol Commander, Milford Haven.

USCG Milford Haven Station is located at the entrance to Gwynn’s Island. Islander Regatta paddlers will pass by the station during the first section of the 9-mile circumnavigation. The Milford Haven Station was identified for potential downgrade to seasonal use only, until local activism efforts convinced the Coast Guard to keep the location as a year-round station.
